Tempeh Reuben Sandwich

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/4 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 ea cloves garlic thickly sliced


  • Take a brick of plain tempeh and slice into 1/4 inch slices.
  • Saute in fry pan with Smoke Maple Marinade, flipping tempeh to brown on both sides. It will absorb the marinade as it cooks.
  • Remove and put on plate.
  • Place one slice of bread in fry pan and spread Thousand Island Dressing. See notes below.
  • Then place cooked tempeh on top of dressing and top with sauerkraut that has been drained of all liquid.
  • Top with second piece of bread.
  • Fry without any oil in non-stick fry pan and when browned, flip and brown other side.
  • Enjoy!
