Ayurvedic Food Traditions

Ayurvedic Food Traditions for Pre-Natal, Gestation, Post-Natal Period

This past week I had the pleasure of speaking with my friend, Deepa Deshmukh. She is a Registered Dietitian in DuPage County, Il. She is amazingly talented in working with people to help them move to healthier ways of eating.

I find chatting with Deepa to be so fascinating because she was born and raised in India. There, she studied Food Sciences and Nutrition. The nutrition practices she learned are rooted in the ancient traditions of Ayurveda. Because of this, she has a genuinely unique perspective on the power of food. And not just what and when we eat. I mean the whole world of food, the power of food traditions, practices, selections, quality, eating patterns, timing, combinations, even placement on the plate.

When Deepa and I start chatting, the time flies! Use this link to find a snippet of my conversation with her. I asked about some common foodways for Indian women before, during and after pregnancy, and Deepa, spilled the tea. I hope you enjoy what she has to say as much as I did!
