Nutrition and Cooking Classes—Class Four of Four: Foods for a Healthy Weight

Join Licensed Food for Life Instructor Barbara Chwierut for Class Four of Four on Nutrition and Cooking.
This class will teach participants that eating plant-based is not a “diet” that leads to feeling hungry or deprived. The focus is on quality not quantity…and when you change the foods you eat you don’t need to think about counting calories or measuring portions.
Janet Pearson, a Building Healthy Communities Leader with PCRM, will present Plant-Based Holiday Baking: Enjoy festive treats made without milk, butter, eggs, or oil using wholesome plant-based baking techniques.
Classes are free of charge. Contact Orland Park at 708-403-4222
Walk-Ins also welcome for these in-person classes!
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, headquartered in Washington, DC. Their efforts are dramatically changing the way doctors treat chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and cancer. By putting prevention over pills, doctors are empowering their patients to take control of their own health.
Food for Life (through PCRM) is an award-winning nutrition education and cooking class program that provides an innovative approach to diet-related chronic diseases. These classes deliver hands-on information about the direct role of plant-based nutrition in health and disease prevention to communities around the world. They are carried out by a licensed Food for Life instructor.
The classes are designed by physicians, nurses, and registered dietitians and promote healthy eating based on the latest scientific research. Each Food for Life class includes:
- Specific information about how certain foods and nutrients work to promote or discourage
disease. - Recipes which will be shared and demonstrated via cooking videos.
- Practical cooking skills and tips for incorporating healthy eating habits into daily life.
- A supportive and motivational atmosphere to empower participants to take charge of their health
with the foods that are put on their plates.
