Culinary Medicine for Sickle Cell Warriors

August 9, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm CDT

Use the healing power of food to reduce pain, fight inflammation, and thrive. Discover how anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich nutrition can transform how you manage sickle cell disease and trait.

People with sickle cell disease (SCD) face complications that start in early childhood and worsen with age—frequent pain crises, hospital stays, and life-threatening organ damage. With an average life expectancy of just 52 years, the impact goes far beyond physical pain. Missed school days, limited job opportunities, and daily fatigue weigh heavily on individuals and families alike.

Even those with sickle cell trait—once thought harmless—can face unexpected health issues, including kidney damage and
increased risk of sudden death under physical stress.

Your Food Choices Matter More Than You’ve Been Told

While medical treatments are essential, nutrition is often overlooked in the fight against SCD. There is a direct connection between what you eat and how your body handles inflammation, oxidative stress, and healing.

Eating a diet rich in nutritious anti-inflammatory and antioxidant foods can help fill nutrient gaps, ease complications, and provide the building blocks for the body to heal and function at its best.

This program is designed to teach you how using food as medicine can help anyone who has sickle cell disease or trait, and their support partners.
