Remembering Dr. John McDougall, WFPB/Lifestyle medicine Pioneer
I didn’t know him.
I woke up to a text message saying, “He died in his sleep. I don’t know any details.”
That’s always a heart-skipping moment, especially when it is the first news of the day. I never met him, but I saw him once on a video conference. Yet, his passing is affecting my life.
There have been so many messages of sympathy and condolences, remembrances, and memorializing posts. I’ll add mine.
Dr. John McDougall. Even though we’ve never met, you loom large in my daily life. I want to thank you. I am grateful for the courage and energy you brought to bear on the Lifestyle Medicine community. I love that you loved potatoes and hailed whole starchy fare as worthy food. I appreciate your fierce, no BS way of saying what you believed. You are/were a giant in the small pond I’ll call “WFPB/vegan Lifestylers.” All of us in this very small pond stand on your shoulders. So many of us are still here because of you.
Thank you for your passion and service. Rest in Power. Continue to spark life in us all.
