Sharing the Healthy Cooking Joy – Introducing Sherry Shrallow
[/fusion_title][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” class=”” id=””]
Can you tell that Sherry is really comfortable talking about food, and cooking, and health in front of a bunch of people? There is no question she is a people person. Friendly, engaging, passionate about life and health, and one of the warmest people you’d ever want to meet! Eight years ago, the future didn’t look nearly as bright. Eight years ago Sherry, who always ate what she “thought” was a healthy diet. After all, it was what the government guidelines told her was healthy. And she was fit as well…loving the outdoors and running. This is not the profile of someone destined for a heart attack. And yet it happened. What made it worse was that, when she spoke to her then “expert cardiologist” about what she needed to do to insure it didn’t happen again his response was (after all, as I said, she had a “healthy lifestyle”) to keep doing what she was doing. And yet, what she was doing set her up for a heart attack!
But Sherry took things into her own hands and began doing some research. She discovered some great books and documentaries and learned something her doctors never told her. There is power in food! That power can either be destructive or constructive for health, depending on which food we choose. And the foods that have the greatest constructive power for human health all come from the ground. The more Sherry learned, the more impassioned she became about sharing this message … that the more plants you eat, the better armed your body becomes to prevent most chronic illness, and, yes, often even to reverse it once it
‘s begun!
Armed with this new knowledge, Sherry determined to do for other heart patients what no one had done for her: share information about how powerful a whole plant based dietary pattern is as well as show people how easy it can be to prepare tasty plant based meals!
For the past four and a half years, Sherry has been conducting cooking classes, both at her home as well as in Cardiac Rehab Centers, Community Centers, Park Districts, anyplace that’ll permit it. During that time, along with her hosting partner, Karen Kornick, the two have developed a wonderful series of classes that can be taught by others as well. There is power in knowledge. And what better to do with that power than to share it for the benefit of all!
