It’s that time of the season…

It is August 2022- ALREADY! And with that, many of us start thinking about the change of seasons and the kids returning to school. Even though there are no children in my house now, I’ve spent my entire life dancing to that rhythm, and I am not expecting the pattern to change anytime soon. So with that as the music in the background, this month, we start looking at what we can do to boost our kids’ plant-powered nutrition profiles.

Gardening 101

Spending time working in the yard is not one of my favorite summer past times.
Spending time planting and working in my garden is something I do enjoy immensely during the summer months. Gardening is an excellent way to spend time outdoors and soak up some Vitamin D, get exercise, and an opportunity to reap the rewards of eating healthy food.

Plant-Based Health With Dr. Ashwani Garg

We invited Dr. Ashwani Garg to talk about his experiences with plant-based diets for his family, his patients, and himself. Dr. Garg is a Family Physician at Advocate Health and Clinical Associate Professor at North Central College. Inspired by works such as Forks Over Knives, he has adopted a plant-based diet and works with his patients to make healthy lifestyle changes.

Changing Your Approach to Eating

Last month, we invited Alia Sweis to talk about her journey towards a healthier, plant-based diet. Like many Americans, Alia has struggled with nutrition in the past. Over the course of the season, we’ll be working with her through her dietary journey. Come along with us as we explore the successes and challenges of the path to plant-based!

Meat Alternatives – Friend or Foe

When Bill Gates is among a group of wealthy people who invest a total of $75 million in a company, people take notice.  And that is exactly what happened in 2017 when Gates and others invested in Impossible Foods, the manufacturer of the Impossible Burger.

Since then, the meat alternative industry has grown and evolved into a frenzy of mergers and acquisitions by large food and beverage companies, and there are a number of growing smaller independent disruptor brands.

Succeed on a plant-based diet while living a busy lifestyle

You’re a busy person and let’s face it, at the end of a long day, you’re tired and hungry. You can’t be expected to whip up plant-based masterpieces every night of the week. Meal planning is an essential component to success when you are trying to eat healthily. Meal preparation is something that must become part of your routine if you wat to be successful in adopting a plant-based regimen.

I recommend setting aside an hour each weekend (or any day that’s convenient) to cook some beans and grains and to prep produce for the week ahead. Just an hour in the kitchen can go a long way to set you up for satisfying, plant-based meals throughout the week. Here

Plant-Based Transition-Gradual or All at Once

One of the most powerful steps anyone can take to improve health, boost energy levels, and prevent chronic disease is to transition to a whole food plant-based (WFPB) diet.

The evidence consistently shows that increasing plant-based foods in your diet and eliminating meat, dairy, eggs, and processed foods help improve longevity, positively impact the environment, and reduce risk of chronic lifestyle disease.
